November 2006 Marble chips, silk thread and electrical components; cut, cast and hand punched paper; zinc-cut relief prints 9' x 4' x 4'
The suspended portion of this installation spins slowly by an electric motor. Two lights are positioned to cast shadows of the cut shapes onto the corner walls. All contour lines on the cut shapes were created by punching needle-sized holes, linearly, through the paper by hand. The spinning structure creates a kind of turning cell for the vacant figures caught in the middle, shown only by their shoes. The little girl is caught twice, once by the net and once by the male shoes, marking a suggestive closeness. Speakers have been placed inside of the cast paper shoes, and play the song of a broken, stuttering music box.
